I'm a Seed.

We are Seed! It's coming up to the Year 2 End of Year show at college, and as a class we've started sorting it all out. I'm on the design team. We've been developing this 'South East Essex Designers' idea into promotional material for the show. Yesterday involved playing with seeds and a lightbox (watch this space for a video some time soon!). Today I think we just about finalised the posters/flyers/invites... It's been quite a mission, but think we're happy with it all now!
We also have a blog. Hopefully we'll start getting some work on there soon!

Some more food for thought

Making some developments in my food&illustration project. Decided to combine the British Food Fortnight idea with the food combinations idea. So I'm designing a promotional campaign, aiming to get people experimenting with British food, mixing up traditional food pairs to try something new.

Made mock-ups of postcards and playing cards (the idea being you pick two or more random cards, and combine the foods to create a new dish), and I'm going to do a poster and re-make the book, too. So lots to be getting on with. And I'm going to re-do all the illustrations in a slightly different style, aswell.
This is the theory, anyway. Not long left on this now, though...

Bunny Rabbit Numbers!

I finally got round to drawing numbers to accompany the bunny rabbit alphabet! I've been meaning to do it for ages, & it never quite happened. But yesterday I gave it a go. I think number 8 is my favourite...

Check out the bunnies in my Folksy and Etsy shops.

Hello my name is Lucy and I hate Frankfurters

Food hates. It's a completely personal thing, taste, and one person's love is another person's hate. The foods we hate seem to be much easier to state than our favourite foods. Saying that, I actually found it pretty difficult to decided upon frankfurters as being my hate. But there we go. Put together this little book with some of the hated foods (thanks for your answers, by the way). Have to say that I only drew a selection of the ones given...if I return to this I may attempt to tackle rhubarb, trout, grapefruit, jellied eels etc. But for the time being I stuck to the slightly easier options to draw! Here's a few of the pages:

Have a nice weekend :)

Food hates?

Ok, I could do with some help. I don't really know if many people read this, but kind people of blog world, could you possibly answer me this, please?

What one food do you hate the most?

Thanks in advance!
I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with the answers. But it's just another angle I might look at - the whole food & individulity thing. One person's food love is another person's food hate.
Thinking about it now, I don't actually know what I'd say in answer to the question...

Chelsea buns & Bakewell tarts

I dug out my watercolours this weekend. I've got so comfortable with my simple line drawings, but wanted to push myself a bit more. I'm a bit scared of colour and paint and things, but thought I'd give it a go. And with the help of some ink, this is the efforts of the past couple of days:

The food&illustration project has taken me on to British food and regional delicacies. I did these watercolour and ink drawings but then wasn't too sure what to do with them. Wanting to celebrate British produce, I thought I could make them in to a promotional campaign or something, and found out about British Food Fortnight. So that's what I did - a series of postcards to promote British Food Fortnight. Sorted.

Next up: food and individuality. Need to do a bit of brainstorming and get stuck in to that one.

Folksy Featured Sellers for April

So, my name was picked out of a hat by the powers that be over at Folksy. My mission, should I choose to accept, was to pick four featured sellers for April. And it's been harder than I thought - quite a responsibility! So much talent to choose from. But I've gone with the following:

Click Click Camera pendant / Cream cupcake earring studs

Glue and Glitter’s shop is full of fun, kitsch items with a bit of “British eccentricity” about them. Thought these illustrated cupcake earrings designed by Laura at glueandglitter.co.uk were super. And the camera pendant is just really playful and quirky.

2. Sara Carr

Bert Plush Lambswool Toy / Lambswool Knitted Abstract Stick Tree Plush Toy

Sara Carr makes beautiful woolly goodies. I think I’m in love with Bert (who, incidentally, is “very sensitive and loves eating wagon wheels. He dislikes velcro and spiders”). This lambswool tree is also pure knitted genius. Cupcakes, sausage dogs, hedgehogs and more in her shop.

3. Sparklehen

Teacup-print / A ballyhoo of birds

Sparklehen has some lovely illustrations in her shop. I love the slight wonkiness to the teacup print, and the soft colours. And the birds just make me grin! So cute with their individual patterns and personalities.

4. Mrs Eliot Books

Take a letter Miss Jones! – ‘Bowls’ letter writing set / Hello & Goodbye – ‘Patterns’ notecard set

Francesca has a fine range of cards, illustrations, collages and much more in her Mrs Eliot Books shop. I’m a sucker for nice stationery, and these sets of printed letterpaper and notecards are so colourful and different. Very nice indeed.

fish & jam, toast & chips?

Been looking at food pairings. Certain combinations have just become tradition and habit. There's no right or wrong, really, just what's familiar. I say fish, you say chips. I say strawberries you say cream. Or maybe you don't, but generally speaking certain foods are linked with others.

So I thought I'd try and challenge ideas. I made this little flip-book thing, where you can mix and match foods to make new combinations. Some, naturally, seem a little odd (I don't think I'll be trying strawberries and mashed potato any time soon), but others could be amazing gastronomic experiences waiting to happen. Just because jam doesn't come to mind when you say bacon dosen't mean it would be wrong. Just unfamiliar.
